If animals could speak to us…
… What would they say?

This week, I watched “The Cove.”

It’s an amazing movie about a village in Japan where the “fishermen” round up and kill a bunch of dolphins for their meat, and how the Japanese government keeps it a secret from the Japanese people and the world, and how one fiery old man groups an “army” to put an end to the dolphin killing spree. I learned a lot about how smart these animals are, and how animals should be respected within nature rather than being trained and studied for our entertainment. Watch, learn, and cry. And DON’T wait for it on Netflix!
Plus, it’s gonna win an Oscar for “Best Documentary.” I know this for a fact.

And if you don’t feel guilty about going to Sea World when you were a little kid after watching this movie, then you’re not even human.
Congrats to Anon11! (again) Where are the rest of you readers?!? At this rate, Anon11 is gonna become my pen pal in real life! (Your surprise will be on its way shortly!) For this week’s reading challenge, post a comment about something you’re passionate about and what you’ve done or will do with that passion.

That movie was amazing! And you are right – total guilt over the fact that my parents took me to SeaWorld as a kid.
Things I am passionate about – the first ties back into your post, and that would be animal rights… Went vegetarian several years ago and then vegan. I think the best thing I have done though is to try to show people how easy it can be to eat vegan and constantly invite people over for dinner so that they realize I’m not simply eating bark and grass (which seems to be a common misconception!).
The second thing I am passionate about it kick boxing. I started last summer, won my first fight in December, and will be traveling to compete for my first amateur title belt in July. I am working hard six days a week and absolutely LOVE IT!!

Sara! Awesome that you saw the movie! I definitely commend you for your commitment to animal rights. I know it takes an immense amount of discipline and knowledge to be vegan – perhaps sometime you can share a recipe or two? Congrats on the kick boxing, too! I assume you’re a pretty hotsy totsy, ass-kickin’ working woman. Love it!!!
I’m very passionate about insects, in almost every respect – biodiversity, ecosystem services, endangered species, as well as insect pests. One thing I’ve done so far is earning one of my degrees in Entomology. I’ve worked in a research lab for over 3 years, looking at ways to control termites and ants while using less or no pesticides.
Enough about me! E-mail your mailing address to dontboxthefox@gmail.com. Thanks!
